Practical server planning

Compare HPE servers for your business

Choose a model for your workload, then compare the exact hardware and services in the quotation. This guide supports HPE server enquiries across India, with a focus on Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

DL360 vs DL380 vs DL385 vs ML30: where to start

Use this shortlist to begin a sizing discussion. The form factor and processor platform describe the model family; installed components, compatibility and available options depend on the selected product number.

HPE server comparison by deployment and buying considerations
ModelPlatformConsider forConfirm before choosing
DL360 Gen121U rack · Intel Xeon 6Rack deployments where space efficiency matters.Required drives, expansion adapters, cooling and memory configuration.
DL380 Gen122U rack · Intel Xeon 6Business applications, virtualization and data-intensive projects.Chassis and drive layout, expansion needs and the installed CPU and memory.
DL385 Gen112U rack · AMD EPYCProjects evaluating an AMD-based compute platform.Application certification, processor choice, licensing and adapter compatibility.
ML30 Gen11TowerSmall-office and branch-office deployments.Application sizing, disk configuration, growth, power protection and site conditions.

DL360 or DL380? Start with rack space, drive requirements and expansion needs. A model name alone does not determine application performance. DL380 or DL385? Compare the actual Intel and AMD configurations against workload measurements and licensing requirements.

For external enterprise-class SAN storage, assess HPE MSA Gen7 alongside the server hosts, connectivity and backup design. Storage is a separate part of the solution, not a substitute for a compute server.

Compare server prices on the same configuration

Within Hyderabad: free delivery and free basic installation. Installation work beyond the basic scope is charged according to the agreed scope of work. The installation scope and any additional charges will be explained in your quotation before work begins. No hidden charges. See Hyderabad delivery and installation details.

Before comparing prices, ask each supplier for the same product number and bill of materials. A platform's maximum memory or drive capacity does not describe what is installed in the quoted server.

  • Hardware: Match processor model and quantity, installed RAM, drive type and quantity, storage controller, networking, power supplies and rack accessories.
  • Condition: Confirm whether the quoted equipment is new, refurbished or used, and how that condition is documented.
  • Software: Identify included operating-system and virtualization licences, required access licences and any recurring subscriptions.
  • Warranty: Confirm who provides coverage, its term, parts and labour inclusions, on-site eligibility and response commitments. Distinguish manufacturer coverage from seller coverage.
  • Total cost: Compare GST treatment, freight, installation, migration, support and any separately priced components.
  • Delivery: Confirm availability, estimated delivery to your postcode, quote validity, payment terms and return terms in writing.

Why request a configuration-specific price? Different component and service selections change the total. Send your shortlist or bill of materials to K Computers for a quotation showing the selected configuration and commercial terms.

1. Describe the workload before choosing a model

List your applications, software versions, number of users, databases and virtual machines. Note busy periods and planned growth. A file server, database host and virtualization platform can place very different demands on the same hardware.

For a replacement system, measured CPU, memory and storage use can help make the discussion more specific. User count alone is not a complete sizing method.

2. Consider compute and memory together

Discuss processor requirements alongside memory capacity and your software licensing model. Core count is only one input: application compatibility and workload behaviour also matter. Memory should account for operating systems, applications, virtual machines and growth rather than only the current data size.

3. Separate drive capacity from usable capacity

State how much usable storage you need now and later. Drive count, RAID design, spare capacity and the workload influence the final configuration. Ask which drives and controllers are included in the quoted SKU and whether the bays suit your planned expansion.

Include backup storage, retention and recovery requirements in the design discussion. Do not treat a RAID arrangement as a substitute for backup.

4. Check the deployment environment

A tower may suit an office deployment, while a rack server needs suitable rack space and supporting infrastructure. Confirm power, cooling, connectivity, physical access and the installation location. Include network port speeds and connection requirements in your quote request.

5. Plan availability and support

Explain how much interruption the business can tolerate. Discuss redundancy, backup, recovery and any cluster or virtualization requirements. Confirm the installation scope, support coverage and ongoing maintenance arrangements.

6. Compare exact product numbers

Two servers with the same model name can have different processors, memory, controllers, drives and power supplies. Compare the complete configuration and product number rather than the family name alone.

Our HPE Smart Choice catalogue lists 35 configurations to help you start a specific quotation discussion. Confirm current price, stock, software licensing and final specifications before ordering.

A simple quote-request checklist

  • Applications, versions, users and virtual machine count.
  • Current utilization, data size and growth expectations.
  • Usable storage, backup retention and recovery needs.
  • Rack or tower preference, site power and networking.
  • Required installation, warranty or AMC coverage.
  • Budget range and intended deployment date.

Common questions

Can you recommend a server from user count alone?

User count is a starting point. Application requirements, workload intensity, data size, virtualization and availability needs are also needed to prepare a useful configuration.

What is the difference between a model and a product number?

The model identifies a server family. A product number identifies a specific listed configuration. Review the supplied components and any separately quoted options before purchase.

Where can I discuss maintenance after purchase?
